Ministries of Compassion
In consultation with the Pastor, the ministry of parish nursing at St. Frances Cabrini Parish is provided by a professional staff person who organizes the care of the sick and homebound parishioners and promotes health and healing of the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. Monthly blood pressure screenings and seasonal exercise classes for seniors are offered in the parish hall. An annual health fair is presented at the parish’s Fall Festival on the Sunday following Labor Day.
The Parish Nurse visits parishioners at home, in hospital, and in nursing homes, as well as offers office consultations and phone assistance. The Parish Nurse brings Holy Communion to the homebound, assists families in finding social services for the sick and elderly, and when needed, supports the selection of hospice care that offers the patient and care givers aid in preparing for a Christian death. Visits made by the Parish Nurse bring a sense of comfort and reassurance to parishioners that they indeed belong to a community that cares about their total well-being. If you or someone you know can benefit from the care of our Parish Nurse please notify Sr. Francesca Ezeokonkwo, R.N. by calling the Parish Office at 217-522-8555.
Ministry of Praise
The Ministry of Praise is conducted by members of the parish who offer their daily prayers, joys, and sufferings to God for the good of the parish community, our world-wide Catholic Church, and the salvation of all people. This ministry is a very important spiritual activity which energizes the life and other ministries of our parish community.
At St. Cabrini we wish to help our ill and homebound, our handicapped and senior citizens join in a chorus of praise to God and ask for God’s blessings.
Parishioners, who are ill, handicapped, or home bound, as well as all senior parishioners, are eligible to be Ministers of Praise. Membership in the Ministry of Praise is their response to a special call from God to serve both the Church and all humankind through prayer and love. The parish keeps in contact monthly with members, sending them prayers according to the spirit of the seasons of the Church’s liturgical year and special intentions to pray for during the month.
Those who wish to join this ministry should contact the parish office to request an application and set up a personal visit. Candidates will be formally commissioned by the parish priest or by another minister of praise during a pre-arranged visit. Ministers of Praise are given a certificate, wooden cross, and a prayer book for their use. There are no dues or other meetings. The rectory number is 217-522-8555.
The Ministry of Compassion has called members of the St. Cabrini Choir and other parishioners to provide meal deliveries for parishioners returning home from hospitalization. At a crucial time in the initial recovery process this simple act of compassion helps the patient & the caregiver cope with additional daily stress by relieving them of meal preparation. Offering the comfort of home cooked meals and some companionship brings cheer to those recuperating. For further information contact the parish office, 522-8555.
Families of our parish that request funeral Mass at St. Cabrini Church for their loved ones are offered funeral lunches as part of our bereavement ministry. Family members are asked to provide the meat, bread and any specialty items they may want. The parish provides the remainder of the meal. For more information contact Marlyn Shaughnessy at the parish office, 522-8555.
